Sunshine on a Rainy Day At Castle Howard
After a horrible week I wasn’t feeling too sure, whether I really wanted to drive for nearly 4 hours to York, but I was taking my friends Chrissy, Kay & Caroline (@cripp1986 @kaythyes @tonerenilorac) & I wasn’t going let them down.
So I picked them up from Chrissy’s at top end of Leicester & our adventure began. I’d booked the High Belthorpe B&B which was based in the middle of nowhere. Much hilarity was had with this location over whether we would be part of our very own Blair witch project. The weather had turned awful when we were 20miles out. As we arrived at the B&B we were greeted by a very soggy Spaniel. Within 10 mins we’d seen 5 dogs, horses, a peacock, hedgehog & geese. Once we booked in we got changed with a major rearrangement of outfits due to weather conditions & finally we were ready to go to Castle Howard.
The drive was difficult as we were in a very big traffic jam. We began to think we may miss the boys. Eventually we had arrived & were able to get straight in after crossing a field, heading straight to the front where we situated ourselves along the front barrier. Alongside other toners we knew just in time to see the boys leaving stage after the sound check.
First up were the Military wives choir who were brilliant. Finally the wait was over & as the rain began to fall heavier & heavier the boys came on stage. They were getting soaked as well, but none of us cared we just danced on through.
Lachie said ‘Hello Warwick’ the others were we’re in Castle Howard & Lachie said ‘Hang on I hadn’t finished I was saying hello to the gentleman somewhere in the crowd over there called Warwick.’ A bit later on he started singing incorrect lyrics, as he later explained the night before he’d been doing Karaoke & he’d gotten mixed up. He also got a small knock off Mike when he began singing Marks lyrics in Run Around Sue. He apologised later as he was a bit nervous as his Mum was there. (along with Timmy’s Mum & Sister & Marks’ Mum & Dad.) The rain was pouring & everyone was dripping wet even if we were in plastic ponchos or under umbrellas. The Umbrellas amused the boys &they kept asking the crowd to bounce them up & down to the music. The weather didn’t matter as all I could think was they were like Sunshine on a Rainy Day to me. I properly smiled for the 1st time in a week & didn’t want it to end.
Once they came off we went round to the side as it had been Chrissy’s Birthday in the week & she had brought her Overtones cake she had received. The box was a bit soggy, but the cake had survived. We waited & met Timmy’s Mum & sister & Lachies Mum, they said they would take it in for her, but as she said & we agreed she wanted to keep it in case one of them came out as she’d like to give it to them personally. Lachies Mum is lovely & it was so nice to finally see her here, let alone get to meet her. She was very excited as this was the 1st time she had seen him have fans wait around for him & as she said ‘& in the rain too’. Not long after up came Timmy & Lachie. Lachie loved it & he helped Chrissy by cutting it for her so the 4 of us could have a piece before they took it in for them. He joked if nothing else he could always get a job in a cake shop. Then before we removed our pieces we let Timmy see it in full glory & then he took it in for us. Mike on the cake took a nose dive & Timmy quickly caught him & put him back on & said shhh he won’t notice. Hahaha!
We were able to get photos with both of them before they left. Them looking their usual suave selves with us looking like drowned rats, but at least they are different.
We went back to the stage to watch some more of the proms & then the boys came out again to sing the 2 songs they sang at the remembrance accompanied by the amazing orchestra.
Then it was off to the back again where we manage to get a hug of Mike & then Mark went passed nipping out to see his parents. He promised to stop on the way back so we waited. Sure enough he headed straight towards us when he was on his way back.
Then it was back to the stage to watch the finale with everyone who had performed including our boys & fireworks. Lachie had the words written on his hand for all of them to sing.
The fun didn’t end there as we headed back to the car in the dark with fireworks lighting the way for us to play hunt the car. The sat nav took us round & round. Eventually we got back to the B&B & fell into our comfy beds & slept well.
In the morning while the others were getting ready I went for a walk, however I didn’t get far as there were the peacocks & horses. I went to one then a lady came to offer me to go see hers & then another to see her 2 big boys. I headed back to join the girls to get a beautiful breakfast with homemade bread. Wonderful. Then we all went to meet the horses & walk around the grounds. We were all chilled out & enjoying everything we didn’t want the adventure to end so off we went to spend a couple of hours in York. We walked on the wall around the city & checked out a few of the sites.
Such an amazing weekend spent with wonderful company watch the fabulous Overtones with all the hidden extras.
