Having booked our tickets over a year ago the day had finally arrived, The Overtones, Blackpool Opera House, Saturday 15th December, 2012. We blended in well with the locals on arrival, despite having travelled around 140 miles from Hull, and took up our seats on the front row, we weren’t VIP but my daughter was desperate that we would be on the front row when she booked!

As the atmosphere built you could feel the excitement among the vastly varying audience, boys, girls, mums, dads, grandmas and grandads, all there to see their do-wop heroes. The lights dimmed and we were introduced to American singer songwriter Jessica Clemmons, wow what  a big voice she has and she really wowed the audience and got them singing along especiallly with her motown medley, I think we’ll certainly see more of this lady.

A few icecreams and drinks later and the audience were hushed as the lights dimmed once again and an unmistakeable silhouette appeared behind the white sheet covering the front of the stage, Lachie, Mark, Mike, Darren and Timmy appeared before us as the sheet was pulled away and they burst into ‘Keep me hanging on’ I couldn’t believe how close we were to the boys and from start to finish I felt as if I was a real part of the concert.

Melting our hearts with the lovely ‘Runaround Sue, ‘Unforgettable’ and ‘ You’ve lost that loving feeling’, setting hearts ablaze by joining us in the audience for a rendition of ‘Glory of Love’ and thrilling us with their amazing dance routines, from start to finish it was an awesome experience and one spent on our feet  the whole night long dancing and singing, the whole of the Opera House was alive and definitely taken Higher by songs from the new album aswell as a few from the old one, and a very special performance of ‘Only You’, which we can only hope will be on the next album.

These guys really are something special who clearly appreciate and value their fans, an hour and a half of solid singing and dancing on stage and yet still more than happy to have a chat, sign autographs and pose for photos at the stage door afterwards, I’m still smiling at the thought of meeting them all and cannot wait until they announce their next tour because I want to be there again!
